| Kilauea Lighthouse Kilauea lighthouse is just past the 23 mile marker and is accessible off Kolo Road. It is perched on a bluff at the northern most point of the Hawaiian Islands. The clamshell lens was build in 1913 and used until the mid 1970's when a beacon was used in its place. The old lighthouse remains and some locals are trying to raise enough money to restore it and put it back into service. You'll pay a $3.00 entry fee per person. It is a short walk around the bluff with 300' drop on all sides, it will burn an hour, only need to do this once. Telescopes are located at several locations for viewing. The top left picture is an interesting little bird burrowed in a hole where they hatch and remain until they are old enough to fly. These birds are all over the hillside and next to the path as you walk around the "U" shaped bluff. Kauai's Oldest
